Starting January 2026 semester, Sigma Phi Epsilon (SigEp) returned to the University of Nebraska at Omaha! With support from the university, alumni of SigEp’s Nebraska Beta chapter, and SigEp’s National Headquarters, the process to re-establish a SigEp charter at UNO is well underway.
SigEp was founded in 1901 in Richmond, Virginia with the promise, “This fraternity will be different.” A new SigEp chapter presents the unique opportunity to bring that promise to life and build a new chapter and a new legacy from scratch. Those who joined during the re-charter process become founding fathers, are the first to create an unparalleled fraternity experience at UNO, and set a tone for what it will mean to be a SigEp on our campus and across the country.
Spring 2026: Goals Met & Surpassed
Our “What to Expect” list from earlier this year wasn’t just a plan; it was a checklist. Here is how we delivered:
- Expectation Establish a visible presence at UNO
- Result: We’ve begun our aspiration as a mainstay on campus, participating in informal fraternity recruitment, endorsed the OneUNO Student Government ticket, supported other Greek-letter organizations like Zeta Tau Alpha (Gamma Mu chapter) during Think Pink Week, and co-sponsored a UNO Spirit & Tradition Softball tailgate.
- Expectation: Recruit high-caliber undergraduate leaders through values-based recruitment methodologies
- Result: Our new founding members represent a diverse range of majors and leadership backgrounds across the university from Pre-Health Professions to Logistics & Supply Chain Management, from Health & Kinesiology to Aviation.
- Expectation: Lay the operational foundation for the Alumni & Volunteer Corporation (AVC) and Nebraska Beta Chapter of Sigma Phi Epsilon
- Result: The Nebraska Beta AVC and Mentor Committee are fully operational and ready to support our grown into Summer and Fall 2026
- Expectation: Complete 20+ hours of leadership and philosophy training
- Result: Our founding members didn’t just study SigEp values, they applied them. We delivered day-one leadership training and equipped members with professional development and time management to excel as scholars in the classroom and leaders in their communities. Most importantly, the undergraduates moved beyond theory to deploy the teachings of the Ritual into their daily lives, pursuing the endeavor ever to realize the importance of virtue, diligence, and brotherly love through their actions.
What’s Next in Summer 2026, Fall 2026, and Beyond?
While the Spring 2026 semester was about returning, the Summer and Fall will be about thriving. As we move into the summer months, our focus shifts to recruitment of other values-based young prospective new members, ensuring that when the fall semester begins, Nebraska Beta is ready to lead the way at UNO.
